Day 1

Tour Highlights
Learn more about the March 11, 2011 earthquake, tsunami, and ensuing nuclear disaster by visiting some of the most important memorials, reconstruction sites, and other areas associated with the disaster. Start off your journey in Namie Town with a visit to the Ohirayama Cemetery, a community cemetery located on high ground with a panoramic view of the disaster area. At the time of the tsunami, the area was covered in fields and served as high ground for evacuation, but in response to the wishes of locals the cemetery was built on the site as a memorial to those who lost their lives in the disaster and as a warning to future generations.
Next, make a visit to Ukedo Elementary School. Located near the coast, the school was swallowed by and partially destroyed in the tsunami, and has since been preserved in almost the exact condition it was found in after the disaster. Observe the condition of the school from outside and from the inner corridors, and view the devastation left behind in the classrooms and gymnasium on the first floor. On the second floor, panels showing the extent of the damage and more information about the disaster, as well as messages of support written by visitors are on display.
Stop at a roadside station, Michinoeki Namie for a local lunch. Although the town was evacuated after the disaster and most of the residents settled elsewhere, this roadside station preserves the culture and traditions of the community.
Make your next stop at the TEPCO Decommissioning Archive Center, where you can learn about the nuclear accident and the current progress of the decommissioning work at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.
Take a tour of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant to view for yourself the decommissioning efforts and learn about future prospects for the area.
Stay overnight at J-Village in Naraha Town, a sports complex that once served as an evacuation center and base of operations for dealing with the nuclear disaster of 2011. Now renovated with a hotel, train station, and top-quality sports facilities, J-Village stands as a symbol of the restoration after the disaster.
Day 2
Tour Highlights
Make a visit to Futaba Super Zero Mill, a pioneering company in Futaba, a small town which was devastated by the tsunami. This company, known for their specially woven yarn used to create fluffy and absorptive towels, is taking on new challenges for the future and chose Futaba as the base for their new twine mill to bring hope and revitalization to the region. The facilities include a towel shop and cafe.
Next, stop by haccoba Odaka Station Brewery & PUBLIC MARKET in Minamisoma City. This stylish and innovative space utilizes the unmanned station building at Odaka Station on the Joban Line, which was closed after the disaster but resumed operations some years later. In addition to the brewery, which produces craft sake, a market selling their products and other local souvenirs has been established. In this once-abandoned town, current residents are revitalizing the area with their creativity and entrepreneurship. Enjoy a break for relaxation and lunch in Minamisoma.
Transfer to Yamakiya, a region that was once an evacuation zone after the nuclear accident, and visit Smile farm, a nursery and farm dedicated to raising anthurium cultivated with an unusual method–using recycled polyester fiber from used clothing instead of soil to grow the tropical plants. In an effort to help revitalize the region, this farm also offers flower arranging and agricultural experiences for tourists.
Continue on to another business trying new initiatives after the disaster: Miyakoji Sweets Yui, a dessert shop taking special care to use local ingredients and committed to sustainability. Try their puddings, chiffon cakes, meringue cookies and other sweet delights, crafted from local ingredients like Miyakoji eggs and enjoy the charming atmosphere of the shop–housed in a cheerful yellow trailer house.
After satisfying your sweet tooth, transfer to Fukushima Airport to catch a flight to your next destination.
