The Bonnet Bus is an old-fashioned vehicle in which the mounted hood protrudes outward from the front of the vehicle. This type of bus was widely used across Japan during the Showa era (1926–1989). In Kurihara, this charming old-time conveyance still runs during special events such as the town Night Market.
The gentle swaying riders feel as they are transported in this old bus is unlike anything a modern bus can offer. Enjoy feeling as if you have stepped back in time as you ride along, gazing out at the nature and townscape of Kurihara, Miyagi.
Assuming a ride distance of up to about 50 kilometers, the Bonnet Bus can transport you from your desired pick-up point to drop-off point. Although it is possible to accommodate requests of over 50 km (for example, a ride from Sendai to Kurihara), please be aware that a long ride may feel burdensome because some riders find the bus’s suspension uncomfortable over long distances.
