Sunrise Kayaking in a Submerged Forest
Spend the night in a mountain lodge in the mountains of the Okitama region of Yamagata overlooking Lake Shirakawa for one of the Spring season’s most unique outdoor experiences in Northern Japan. Wake up before the sunrise and embark on a kayaking journey on the calm lake just as the sun crests over the mountains to kayak through the forests of this lake submerged in water and shrouded by the morning mist.
This is a 2 day tour package which starts from the train stations nearest to this lake of Nagai Station or Yonezawa Station.
The start time of this tour is flexible though we encourage guests to be ready to depart from these stations to the lake via taxi between 1:00pm to 3:00pm to give time to enjoy the nature and mountains before dinner.
We are also able to arrange a day visit to the lake where you can take part in a morning or afternoon kayaking session.

This is an overnight tour package which includes the following.
-One night stay with dinner at a mountain lodge.
-Roundtrip reserved taxi arrangement from nearby train stations to the lodge/lake.
-Kayak and gear rentals and guided experience by an English speaking expert (about 1.5 hours)

The closest stations to start this tour are Nagai Station or Yonezawa Station.
We will coordinate transportation and pick up time via email.
We ask that participants be able to meet at the station before 4pm at the latest in order to make it to dinner at your lodge.
Important notes
Note that the mountain lodge by the lake is an older facility with shared bathroom and shared bathing facilities. This means that guests must be ok with gender separated public baths.
Rooms are also traditional Japanese tatami mat rooms with futon beds.

Reservations for this experience are made on a manual basis where we contact both the mountain lodge and kayak guides upon receiving your inquiry. We will email you back with the availability of this tour.
Also take note of the following important points.
– This tour package requires a non-refundable 20% deposit to book. Date change requests can be made within the same season of the booking, but full refunds will only be possible in the case of dangerous weather conditions which force the cancellation of the kayaking tour.
– In the case of dangerous weather conditions, the kayaking portion of this trip may be cancelled.
-This tour will be done with other participants, private options are available via request.
-Large groups may need to be split between different groups for safety.

This tour is designed for 2 people and more, for single traveler inquiries we will need to charge a higher price as the taxi and room fee will not be able to be split between multiple people.
